Linear lighting has become increasingly common and its application continues to expand. Using low voltage 12V LED flex strips, you can now add indirect, accenting lights everywhere in your home – from cabinet lighting to shelf lighting, and even back-lighting. Unfortunately, while these are great options, standard LED strip lights are mostly short length strips – between 16 feet and 32 feet at most – and are too short for such use in cove and crown lighting, outdoor deck lighting, and its kind that require really long light strips. But there is an interesting solution.
LED Strip Lights
AC LED strip lights run off straight line voltage of about 120VAC and can run a full length of 150 feet. With already attached power cords that converts power to DC power for the LEDs, these are much simpler to use than low-voltage LED strips. Running at an efficiency of 2.3 Watts/foot, these 120V LED strips are just as efficient as your standard density strips. Let us consider some unique characteristics of these strips.

Characteristics Of LED Strip Lights
Length: Perhaps the most interesting characteristic of these AC LED strips are their incredible length. A total of 150 feet in a single run, they run over 5 times longer than low voltage strips.
Durability: These LEDs are housed in a 1/4” (H) by 9/16” (W) flexible rubber. They are much more durable than standard 12V LED flex strips with their adhesive backing, with a combination of PVC covered lenses capable of shielding against UV rays giving them a heavy duty feel. This durability and ruggedness makes them great for both indoor and outdoor application.
Output: Similar to the standard high-density 12V LED strips, the AC LED strips house 5050 SMD LEDs. With 20 LEDs per foot, it is easily the highest density LED strip. This improved density goes a long way to improving the light quality, making these strips great for indirect accent lighting. Parallel wiring of the LEDs within the strips prevents all LEDs from going off when one goes off. The 5050 AC LED strips output about 145 Lumens/foot for Warm white which increases to 180 Lumens/foot for Cool white. Also available in Red, Blue and Green colors, this LED strip is perfect for accent lighting and any form of linear lighting.

The heavy-duty AC strips come without any adhesive backing for mounting, unlike the standard flex strips. Mounting clips are sufficiently placed in the LED package – enough for 1 clip per 3 foot. A plastic mounting track can be used to add an extra layer of protection while keeping the strips perfectly straight without any unnecessary curves. Feel free to explore all of your mounting options. The AC LED strips also come in a unique plug-in style, making them easy to set up. You do not have to worry about how to connect your LED to a power source as this has been made super easy. Just plug in and you are good to go.
